Right to health care

/ 17 July 2004

Imagine our Congress and our state legislatures using their political capital to advance the idea of a right to health care for all. Can you see it? Instead of hours spent arguing over definitions of marriage, they’d spend the time working through the hard details of ensuring that people’s basic needs for health were met. Sound unlikely? Sound impossible? Not in the state of Massachusetts, which has just approved the first step towards such an amendment. If it passes the legislature for a second time next year, it will go before Massachusetts voters in 2006. Now THERE’S an amendment I could get passionate about.
